the project
Champlain Valley Family Center is dedicated to providing substance use treatment, prevention, education and support programs that promote the well-being & quality of life of residents of Clinton County, NY. Prevention & treatment involve healthy lifestyle choices that are not only focused on avoiding drugs & alcohol. Prevention & treatment involve choosing activities and making life choices that nurture healthy bodies and find ways to meet the stresses and challenges of life. Our purchase of new space for expansion in July makes this the perfect time to realize our dream to create Champlain Valley Family Yoga. The mission of Champlain Valley Family Yoga will be to design, implement and offer a prevention-based yoga program at CVFC to give those in recovery, their families and friends the tools and inspiration to begin a personal yoga practice that will enhance recovery and foster their physical and spiritual well-being.
the steps
Donations received through Healthy Neighborhoods will be used to plan, develop and equip Champlain Valley Family Yoga. In the spring of 2017, Champlain Valley Family Yoga will be operational in a newly renovated space at Champlain Valley Family Center. Emily, our certified yoga instructor, will offer yoga classes weekly for those in recovery, their families & friends through Champlain Valley Family Yoga.
Donations for Champlain Valley Family Yoga can be made online through our project page or by cash or check delivered or mailed to Champlain Valley Family Center, 20 Ampersand Dr., Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Checks should be made out to "IOBY" and should list "Champlain Valley Family Yoga" in the notes. Donations made by cash or check will be counted toward our matching fund total.
why we're doing it
Coupling yoga with substance use prevention treatment validates it as a beneficial strategy and a healthy alternative to drug and alcohol use as stress reducers. The Champlain Valley Family Yoga program with its emphasis on mindfulness practice will be a wonderful addition to our other community and school-based prevention programs that utilize information and education.

“Everyone knows someone who’s affected by substance use addiction, no matter who or where you are,” says Ginny Brady, Board President of the Champlain Valley Family Center (CVFC) in Plattsburgh, New York. “It’s everyone’s problem; everyone’s issue.”
For almost 35 years, CVFC has provided treatment and prevention programs for people struggling with substance use addiction, and their families. They offer both education- and community-based programming, and are now adding a third dimension through their Healthy Neighborhoods Challenge project: Champlain Valley Family Yoga.
Thank You CVFC Staff
