As Climate Program Director at NYC DEP, Alan develops cost-effective strategies to advance resiliency and prioritize investments in water and natural resources management. He leads efforts on flood protection, coordinates national and international climate resiliency initiatives, promotes green approaches to drainage and water quality improvement, and advances studies of climate change impacts on water supply, stormwater management, and wastewater treatment. He works closely with NYC government agencies to coordinate citywide resiliency and waterfront planning efforts, and with the Water Utility Climate Alliance to advance climate research and decision-making tools. Alan managed development of the NYC Wastewater Resiliency Plan and contributed to the Comprehensive Waterfront Plan, Green Infrastructure Plan, and PlaNYC: A Stronger, More Resilient New York. In 2016, he traveled to Germany and the Netherlands to complete research on adapting urban water management to climate change as part of the McCloy Fellowship in Environmental Policy.
