Lacy Dawson is currently the Field Director with Michigan Voice, a non-profit collaborative which provides civic engagement tools, resources and support to state tables. She was born and raised in the city that she loves to support, Detroit, Michigan. Her passion is to engage and empower citizens throughout Detroit to make collective and individual strides towards eliminating social and economic disparities, which plague communities across the country.

She has been an avid activist in the City of Detroit volunteering and supporting the efforts of organizations such as the United Way, the Michigan Democratic Party, the Detroit Parent Network, the Parade Company, Communities in Schools, the DPS Reading Corp and countless other organizations whose missions uplift the community.

From 2007-2010 she was a dedicated volunteer of the Obama Campaign/Organizing for America and in 2010 she became the Regional Field Director for Metro Detroit Organizing for America, the campaign to re-elect President Barack Obama. The Metro Detroit office was successful in recruiting over 700 volunteers, hiring 7 field staff, managing over 35 volunteer team leaders and teams, and engaging hundreds of thousands of Detroit voters through phone banks, door to door canvassing, voter registration drives, volunteer recruitment fairs, house parties and community events.

Lacy believes that by growing people’s passions and utilizing people power, leveraging techniques of authentic grassroots organizing, validating everyday people and their leadership abilities and keeping an eye on the prize of movement building we can not only move mountains but we can be the change that we seek and need.
