In early 2017, the National Main Street Center (NMSC) and Project for Public Spaces (PPS) launched Cultivating Place in Main Street Communities, a series of two-day trainings aimed at helping Main Street communities revitalize their downtowns using placemaking—a citizen-led process that helps activate downtowns and community gathering places. NMSC and PPS piloted this training program for Main Street communities in five states: Wyoming, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Michigan. 

NMSC is now partnering with the national, nonprofit crowdfunding platform ioby to offer matching funds, training, and one-on-one fundraising coaching to Main Street communities in those five pilot states who are ready to implement placemaking projects. Crowdfunding on ioby allows project leaders to raise funds, cultivate a local donor base, find volunteers, and build visibility for their project, all with one-on-one support and training from ioby staff.

Each project below has been awarded $3,400 in matching funds for their local placemaking initiative. Make a donation to any of these projects and your donation will be instantly doubled! For example, if you make a $50 donation, the project will receive $100.*

* Only the first $1,000 of a single donation will be matched. Donations will be matched until February 15, 2018. Projects may continue to fundraise unmatched dollars after their entire match amount has been used.  The "Raised So Far" progress bar on each project's page shows a running total of donations and match funding applied to the project to date.
