ioby mobilizes neighbors who have good ideas to become powerful citizen leaders who plan, fund and make positive change in their own neighborhoods. We believe that it should be easy to make meaningful change “in our backyards” - the positive opposite of NIMBY.

We work with informal networks of neighbors and local leaders, as well as with 501c3 nonprofits at all phases of growth. If you are fundraising for a nonprofit whose mission helps to make a community greener, stronger, more livable and more fun, crowd-resourcing on ioby can be a key part of your fundraising strategy.

We’re a nonprofit too, and we’ve designed our services to support the great work you do!  With ioby you can:

  • crowdfund without losing a big cut in platform fees: ioby is one of the lowest-cost crowdfunding platforms around. We work to keep our fees low so that we can remain accessible and affordable to nonprofit project leaders.
  • access free one-on-one technical assistance: Every project leader is matched with an ioby Success Strategist who supports you and your campaign every step of the way. As soon as you share your project idea at ioby.org/idea, a Success Strategist will reach out to discuss your project and fundraising needs in more detail, and set you on the path to fundraising success. Your Success Strategist will check in throughout your campaign, suggest best practices, and answer your questions as needed.
  • receive free training and resources to learn more about crowdfunding: We host webinars and workshops that are designed to support nonprofit leaders interested in crowdfunding. Joining our mailing list (which you can do on our homepage) is the best way to stay up-to-date on upcoming webinars. You can also explore our 7 Habits of Highly Successful ioby campaigns, Leader Guides and Getting Good Done Guides at ioby.org/resources
  • crowdfund without offering incentives: Many crowdfunding sites require that there is a reward or incentive structure for each donation amount. On ioby, you have the power to decide if you want to add suggested donation levels or simply ask for support at any level, and we do not require you to spend valuable time and cash fulfilling rewards.
  • find volunteers, build your local support base, and spread the word about your work: We call what we do at ioby crowd-resourcing, because we understand that neighborhood-transforming work doesn’t happen with cash alone, but also through in-kind donations, a wide base of local good will, and a lot of volunteer muscle.  On ioby, you can invite people to volunteer directly from your ioby campaign page, and we work with you to ensure your campaign helps you build ALL the kinds of support you need.
  • raise more money with matching funds: Have a grant or large donation you’d like to leverage as matching funds on a crowdfunding campaign? On ioby, you can set up a customized matching challenge to help boost your crowdfunding power and incentivize new donors to give.
