the project
These programs will help to rebuild our community, create camaraderie in our neighborhoods, restore confidence and boost self esteem in people who are attempting to transition from illness and homelessness.
Aunt Lottie's Closet was named in the memory of Olivia Gilbert, who's life was taken as a result of mental illness. Aunt Lottie's Closet will be a non profit thrift store that provides a clothing exchange for cancer patients who have had significant weight loss, we will provide assistance to families transitioning from homlessness or facing emergency situations, and we will assist with donations for the homless population of the northside of Pittsburgh. We
As a survivor who lost 35 pounds, I found that buying clothes that fit helped to bring me out of the depression that comes along with cancer, and helped my healing process. Financially most people can not afford to buy new clothes, especially after being off work and facing tons of hospital bills, through this program we can be a blessing to people that are going through the same situation that I did.
When my aunt Olivia Gilbert was murdered by the hands of a family member, it showed me that mental illness is real, I want to help homeless people by donating clothes and blankets, and eventually having a community center with a shelter. We will also do an annual Christmas fundraiser and gift drive that sponsors families for Christmas.
Bracelets for Patients was created just to encourage cancer patients while they are recieving treatments, through this program I make bracelets and keychains and take them to the cancer centers and encourage patients, by sharing my story and letting them see how far I have come and that they can and will make it through
the steps
We will have a Christmas concert / fashion show in December to help raise funds. Funds raised will be used to buy more racks and hangers to add to the ones already purchased and also to rent and maintain a retail space to house the store.
