the project
Every child should have an opportunity to reach their potential and pursue their dreams. The Bethany House Academy in Northview Heights makes that possible for children and youth living in a public housing community where poverty is the highest in the city and resources, services and opportunities are limited.
While the Bethany House has been supporting families in Northview Heights for over 50 years, we want to expand our services and support more children. We only currently serve a fraction of the kids in the neighborhood.
With your help, we will sustain and grow our preschool and after-school programs to ensure the children of Northview Heights are:
- Kindergarten ready
- Pittsburgh Promise ready
- Workforce (and life) ready
Every dollar is doubled until we reach $20,000 thanks to the ioby One Northside Crowdfunding Challenge!
the steps
Hitting our goal will enable us to:
- Fully staff our preschool for remainder of 2018-2019 school year
- Provide preschool students with 2 meals per day 5 days a week
- Secure resources for after-school programming for remainder of 2018-2019 school year
- Provide after-school students with dinner 4 days a week
- Support a strategic planning process that will lay the groundwork for the expansion of our programs. This includes obtaining our first Keystone STAR certification for our preschool!
why we're doing it
Northview Heights is one of the toughest, most distressed neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. Bethany House is committed to serving those who are economically impoverished, and overwhelmed with problems associated with substance abuse, unemployment, low academic performance, delinquency, and the other destructive activities.
The Bethany House Board, staff, volunteers and partners deeply believe:
- Where a child is born and the color of their skin should not determine the trajectory of their life
- All children should have the right to hope and dream, especially those from families living in poverty
- Every child should be nurtured and loved, and they all deserve a chance to reach their potential
Please help us make that a reality for the children of Northview Heights.
