the project

Selected as a Miami Foundation Public Space Challenge 2014 winner, Bike Repair Miami aims to install three public bike repair and air pump stations around Miami. These stations will be found along popular bike routes around Miami, providing commuters and recreational bikers with the support they need to travel safely and comfortably.

the steps

  1. Collaborate with local organizations, businesses, and government employees
  2. Request permitting
  3. Install stations
  4. Ongoing marketing to spread the news

why we're doing it

The comfort and safety provided by these bike repair stations will increase the viability of cycling as a means of transportation in Miami whether it be for commuting, exercise, or recreation. Improving the bikability of our city will have numerous, positive impacts environmentally, socially, and economically.  Benefits include:

  • Increased bicycle safety due to better maintenance.
  • Decreased traffic congestion and increased parking availability due to fewer cars on the road.
  • Less automobile-generated pollution, better air and water quality.
  • Increased physical activity in the community and therefore improved health standards.
  • Increased accessibility to (free) bicycle repairs for the less fortunate.
  • Increased foot traffic to the businesses and neighborhoods surrounding the repair stations.
  • Improved access to public transportation and ability to travel long distances
  • Heightened appeal to tourists.

Last but not least, this project would send a clear message to the global community: Miami is willing to join the rest of the world in their efforts to promote safe bicycling as a healthy and fun mode of transportation!
