About the project
There are many health related issues, due to environmental neglect and lack of resources, that the people of Bushwick are facing. Some of these health issues include asthma, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and lack of prenatal care. Also there are a shortage of trees and plants. if there are trees, most tree beds are neglected, and our community does have many outlets to get fresh local produce. The Steps
Phase1: To have a meet and greet in a local community garden. Give away seed starter kits/plants
Phase2: Work with neighborhood families to extend treed beds, planters to beautify the area, and build dog waste bag dispensers.
phase3: Hold educational workshops in community gardens throughout the growing seasonWhy we‘re doing it
Our project stresses the importance of healthy eating, gardening, recycling, and enjoying fresh air spaces. Through providing fun green learning opportunities and interactive sustainable living techniques, we will engage the community by doing extensive outreach and education, and encourage people to use their local resources (gardens, parks, green ways, etc.) for their benefit. We will be proactive by extending and beautifying tree beds around the neighborhood, and by helping families grow their own food in local community gardens and at home.
