the project

The same team who gave you the Cooper/Higbee Underpass Mural would like to create another mural on both walls of the underpass on Central Ave, just west of Cooper Street.

the steps

  • Volunteers start clean up and professionals pressure wash the walls by December 4.
  • Wall preparation and sealing by volunteers.
  • Artists will set the design on the walls.
  • Artists create.
  • Community enhancement by February 1, 2015.

why we're doing it

So many people drive under this forgotten trestle on a daily basis.  It is very dark and dirty, yet it is the gateway into the popular Central Gardens neighborhood.  By painting an artistic and creative mural, the aesthetics and esteem of the neighborhood and its members will be enhanced.

budget

Pressure washing  $800

Paint and supplies  $1200

(our budget for the Cooper/Higbee mural was $1500.  The Central walls are much longer.)

Revised budget (12/4/14): Pressure washing will be donated in-kind. The $800 set aside for that will now go to paint and supplies.

Cleanup underway

We are going to start the cleanup this weekend, Saturday Jan 24, at 10 am.  It got a bit cold through the holidays, but I"m hoping it will now stay warm enough to get started. The pressure washing will happen soon after. Please join us Saturday if you can, bring gardening gloves!
