iN Education’s Battle of the Teal art program in collaboration with Cleveland Time Records is hosting a virtual and social-distanced live concert to promote local jazz artists and share their works with the community during these challenging times and uncertainty that COVID-19 brought to the lives of the many artists. Following safe social distancing guidelines, the concert will be streamed live at Cleveland’s Bop Stop, or other like venue, on Sept. 20th,2020. There will be a limited in-person attendance. LIVE online stream will allow for an unlimited number of free virtual attendees to enjoy this benefit concert.
iN Education’s Battle of the Teal is a year-round art program that promotes the hard work and dedication of visual and performing artists. This program builds a platform for young, emerging artists who wish to develop in the arts of their selected form, boost their confidence levels, and experience what it’s like to present their masterpieces and/or themselves in front of a live or virtual audience!
Cleveland Time Records is a full-service record company that produces, records, distributes, and promotes records from talented Cleveland area jazz and jazz-related music artists to a worldwide audience. Jazz saxophonist and executive producer of Cleveland Time Records Matthew Alec is fully committed to bringing this great art music back to the forefront of the music scene in Cleveland. With the goal of raising $6,000, we will be able to properly host this benefit concert, compensate the very talented jazz artists, as well as support the iN Education’s Battle of the Teal art program.

Matthew, an artist in the field of jazz music for many years now, he has found that there are few resources available for artists involved in this great art form. Declining records sales in music overall and especially jazz have created an environment where artists are struggling to both get their music heard and find a way to cover the expensive cost of recording without a significant out of pocket expense to themselves. These challenges are even tougher in times of COVID. The common phrase that he’s heard throughout his life is that ‘jazz is dead,’ but the audience reactions to it that he has personally experienced since his performing career began telling him the exact opposite. Having produced three records of his own at this point, Matthew has built a reliable network of resources that can aid Cleveland musicians. He desperately wishes to use these resources to build a jazz culture and support the musicians that play it in the community and beyond.
