the project
What better way is there to spend a Saturday in summer than sharing a good plate of food next to new, old and new-to-you neighbors with a view of Lake Erie?
Collinwood residents: Mark your calendars and start brainstorming your best recipes for the first Collinwood Community Potluck on Saturday, July 8th from 4-8pm at the Euclid Beach Park pavilion. Here, people from across the neighborhood will come together to celebrate community over homemade and local restaurant dishes, playing lawn games and swaying to the beat of local musicans.
The concept is simple - every attendee is asked to bring a dish and/or bounty from their home or community garden to share as we dine elbow to elbow at long, communal tables. Those members in the community who cannot bring a dish are welcome, too, to feast at this free event where no one will be turned away. This will be a Zero Waste, sustainable event and will complement two other Collinwood events happening earlier in the day (VASJ's Escape to the Lake 5k Run/Walk and GardenWalk Cleveland).
A group of Collinwood residents- with support of Northeast Shores Development Corporation- have been working to put on this event. We welcome any and all monetary donations as well as volunteers to pass out postcards, recruit attendees, help with set-up and clean-up day-of and more!
Want to volunteer, donate food or support the event in some other way? Feel free to contact me at ali.alithearchitect@gmail.com. Please RSVP to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1331156850301975/
the steps
The funds raised will help make the event a reality. Due to the short time frame, many expenses will be paid out of pocket by resident volunteers and these funds once recieved by our fiscal agent will serve to reimburse expenses like postcard printing, pavilion rental, musican bookings, food, papergoods, etc.
why we're doing it
The purpose of the event is to bring together neighbors to share a great meal, engage in good conversation, to build connections and foster a sense of community among the diverse residents of Collinwood. We envision families, block clubs, new and old-time residents coming together to find common ground while enjoying each other's company (and favorite recipes!) in our neighborhood's beautiful lakefront park.
It's a celebration of all things local - from the produce grown in community gardens to the live musicians to the grassroots organizing that dreamed up this Potluck in the park. The relatively low-cost event is possible because of residents who will bring donations of food as well as contribute to this IOBY campaign. These donations will be leveraged to ensure everyone in our community regardless of income or ability to cook, bake or grow a garden is able to participate in this neighborhood building event.
