Our Sunset Park community is working to fundraise to support survivors of the mass shooting that took place earlier this week. This is done with guidance and support from Council Member Alexa Avilés and Assembly Member Marcela Mitaynes who are directly in touch with the survivors and their families.
This fund will go directly to survivors to help cover medical & therapy expenses, support any loss of income due to injuries sustained in the attack, and more. If there are leftover funds, it will be utilized for future healing events for the community. This is organized by South Brooklyn Mutual Aid which is a mutual aid group based within Sunset Park that has been organizing to support families since March 2020. Deep gratitude to our fiscal sponsor Academy of Medical and Public Health Services who will be helping to distribute funds to those affected. They are a dedicated community-based organization.
This fund is directly assisting those who were injured and have been identified. If you are a survivor and would like to opt-in for support, please utilize this form here, and we will reach out quickly!
Sunset Park is a working-class, immigrant, and multicultural neighborhood. For decades, we have fought for one another, and have remained resilient against hurricanes, fires, gentrification, displacement, and the COVID-19 pandemic. This horrible act of violence will not shake our love, commitment, and solidarity with one another. We will continue to reforge our connections and to grow closer as a community.
