the project

The organization described here is officially named "Gregory’s Garden." This name changed from P.S. 158th Memorial Community Garden, Purpose — The Garden was originally established as a Victory Garden and Natural Resource for the purpose of providing garden space for people and birds and that live there.  Its primary purpose continues to be to provide garden space to people who are interested in gardening. The Garden’s secondary purpose is to be of benefit to the community and the birds and insects that live and use it. As time past "Gregory's Garden" found there other gardens had similar problems. This is now 'East New York 4 Gardens" a non-profit organization was founded. These are services that this organization will focus on:

1. Assisting various gardens with their clean-upand maintenance of their Garden(s).

2. Lending tools and giving materials (example: compost & plants).

3. Addressing their problems to our peers (Greenthumb, Community Board and public officials, etc)

4. Giving advice to those who have none by going to classes and demonstrations.

5. Connecting to the supporting non-profits and corporate fundraising to assist these gardens and parks.

why we're doing it

Gregory's Garden was founded in 1998. During the years we found that where not the only garden with problems. Getting a grant from Citizen's Committee formed East New York 4 Gardens. We have proven to help and advocate for many community gardens and parks. Now we need that East New York 4 Gardens become an officially non-profit organization. The organization will be collaborate further with by :

a. being able to umbrella different gardens and parks groups

b. write grants without interference

c. able to get donations and contributions

Gregory's Garden wants to be a leader in East New York/ Brownsville gardens and aims to focus on working with public schools. This is important socially and economically because East New York, Brooklyn has a population around 183,000 (2016) is the fastest growing population in Brooklyn. 51.4% Black, 36.7% Latino 6.4%Asian 1.9 Non Hispanic and 3.6% other. Over half the population lives below the poverty line. This has a great effect on education and crime rate in the community.

We must eat healthy and take care of our community in order to have a better life...
