the project

Ginger Moon is a mother-owned cooperative.  We are chefs, herbalists and doulas that want to enable new mothers to become their own healers.

In order to help mothers become their own healers, Ginger Moon needs to establish itself as a community centered and do good company that works to ensure that all its members practice self-care and healing.  In order to do this, we have chosen to become a cooperative.

Ginger Moon staff has been accepted into an intensive coop academy that is facilitated by Green Worker Cooperatives. In this 16-week academy, we will be getting business development tools such as business plan writing, fundraising techniques, legal support, website development and also skills such as working with others, nurturing a sustainable economy, and making the world a better place through a healthy business.

Your donation will help to cover our registration in the course and be able to help provide quality and affordable childcare for Ginger Moon's children, but also for the children of other mothers in the coop academy!

Through hands-on-workshops, home visits, women centered events catering and personal chef services, we will provide women fresh, healing meals and skills to attain and reclaim wellness during pregnancy, after birth and cesareans, while preventing post-partum depression, anemia, gestational diabetes and more, using food as medicine.

We believe that a healthy, self-healing and self-caring mother will create healthier babies, families and communities.

The founders of Ginger Moon are Alexandra Lopez Reitzes, Maricruz Badia and Janvieve Williams Comrie. We are all mothers and have all had our share of successes, challenges, breakthroughs and countless joys around pregnancy, breastfeeding, motherhood and mothering.  We all recognize that, as women, a mother’s food is something that brings us together, and has the power to heal when prepared, shared and enjoyed with patience, love and commitment.

the steps

We need to fundraise $1,800 by August 15th 2012 in order to participate in the academy, and to contribute to the childcare fund for our members and all mothers in the coop academy that also need childcare.

Many of you are either mothers and/or pregnant or trying to conceive, or know of women that are in their childbearing year or breastfeeding. And through your support we can make Ginger Moon a tangible reality for all the women and mothers that need healing foods.

Your donations will go directly to this training--which gives us access to the following:

·  Weekly one-on-one coaching sessions;

·  Fundraising trainings;

·  Legal incorporation;

·  Web site development; and

·  Graphic design services

While we need to raise 1,800 for the coop academy and the childcare fund, we are aiming to raise $1,200 dollars more.  These funds be allocated to our coop as funds to get us off the ground and cover expenses such as: pots, pans and other kitchen supplies and to pay for storage space for our equipment.

why we're doing it

By changing families' view of health, we will influence and change physical and mental health outcomes and the ability to pass them on to babies, families and communities.

If Zorah loves kale, so will her growing baby. Their chances of diabetes, asthma, and obesity will be lowered. Zorah shares kale recipes with friends and families, and their children might choose seasoned crispy baked kale chips over greasy potato chips in the future.
