The purpose of the greenhouse would be to set up a base for horticulture in the community and to instruct the community at large about plant propagation and growing food.

Step one for gardening success in building a roadmap in urban gardening in inner cities in Memphis.
The first step in the project will be to build the greenhouse and secure solar panels to the greenhouse structure. A heater and fan in the greenhouse will be powered by the solar panels to ensure proper propagation for over 5,000 seedlings and plants. The plants will then be distributed as well as planted in the adjacent garden. Produce from the garden will be harvested, taken to farmers markets, and given away to community members.
We are hoping that this project will serve as a model for other local neighborhoods to start urban farming. The Springdale neighborhood has a significant lack of food access and economic opportunities. Community members in the Springdale neighborhood are interested in growing food in their own gardens. Providing a space for them to come learn first hand will give them the opportunity to enhance their food growing skills significantly. This project will set up a "home base" for community members to learn to grow their own food and perhaps eventually sell it.
