the project
The project revives and restores the grand tree beds along Convent Avenue and within the Hamilton Heights Historic District. The hertiage trees and gracious size tree beds harken back to a picture post card image of old New York at the turn of the century. Following years of neighborhood transition and lack of attention t the tree beds and plantings have fallen into a blighted and derelict state. The tree bed project for 2018 starts the process of restoring and reinvigorating the tree beds, plantings and tree guards.
the steps
The tree bed restoration project kicks-off April 14th as a community wide event. Residents, volunteers and partners will be cleaning, cultivating, mulching and watering the one hundred ninety tree beds in the neighborhood. Managled and bent tree guards will be adjusted and reinstalled, then primed and painted black. For tree beds without a guard, a tree guard will be installed using a simple post and chain design that is consistent with a turn of the century look and asthestic. Flowers will be planted in tree beds and small signs will be installed to promote the community's good works.
why we're doing it
Revivied and rejeuvinated tree beds will significantly improve and enhance the neighborhood and provide a visual sense of joy and satisifaction. The perenial and annual flowers in full bloom will create a brillliant color pattern across the one hundred ninety tree beds in the community.
