the project

We believe that our young people deserve meaningful, positive workforce experiences to grow their understanding that they can have meaningful work that invests in the communities that they live in, and so we're investing in this summer experience for our young people.  Together we'll find the program to make it happen.

Oftentimes young people are hired at fast food restaurants or other physical labor that is not in their communities and it does not provide career path skills for their future. We see this as an opportunity to provide them with meaningful employment to build skills, connect with community, and establish work ethic so that they are successful in all aspects of their lives.

We provide meaningful work that empowers our young people to be a part of the workforce in their community.

the steps

In summer 2018 the HDCG will hire team leaders to mentor our young people using an established curriculum to empower career development. We ran a successful year-round youth employment program for four years, and this is a way to continue our service to the meaningful work that our young people want.

We will also teach a social media, journalism, and storytelling curriculum to empower our youth to find their voice to tell their own stories and their communities' stories.

why we're doing it

Our young people are asking for meaningful work. They want to work where they live, and they want to feel that the work that they're doing uplifts and develops and adds value to their community.
