Access to art and wellness resources is a necessary part of the overall health of any neighborhood - this is why all donations will directly fund art and wellness instructors to bring their knowledge into our Hollis community. This project is about access and equality - to show our neighbors that they are not forgotten and deserve to thrive.
Any amount is welcome, and every contribution will help us reach our goal and be doubled by the NYC Partnership for Parks.
After having two successful events at the Hollis Playground, we know that our neighbors want more opportunities for creative self-expression, and we are here to make it happen with your support!
May 2022 - Reach our crowdfunding goal! Submit permits to NYC Parks for the Community Festival in Summer 2022. Contact artists and musicians and book them for the event
June 2022 - Buy any missing art supplies and rent equipment. Create a flyer and start posting flyers around the neighborhood and in our newsletter. Seek local volunteers to help during the event.
July - August 2022 - Confirm the final roster of artists and workshops. Confirm equipment needs. Set up events and host event in the park.
Hollis is an Environmental Justice area and one of Queens's "hardest-hit" COVID-19 neighborhoods. Its population is primarily people of color, with 14.5% living below poverty. The Hollis playground is in Queens District 12, one of Queens' districts with the lowest educational attainment and highest crime rates.
Hollis Playground is our only outdoor space for enriching, cultural, and educational programming. Our goal is to revitalize the Hollis Playground into a welcoming and beautiful hub to engage with our neighbors and strengthen our cultural and communal landscape.
Our biggest challenge is funding. We are a small grass-roots group with lots of energy and know-how but lack the budget to do meaningful projects in our neighborhood. For more info and pictures about our past events, check the "Updates" page.
