The Idlewild Elementary Chess Club seeks to raise funds to cover some training material expenses and end-of-year celebration costs associated with the operation of its inaugural year! The club includes dozens of Idelwild students (K-5) who have not only learned chess strategy and tactics, but also vital life skills such as critical thinking and analysis, teamwork, sportsmanship and self-discipline. Coached and supervised by volunteer coaches and parents, the club has proved to be socially and academically enriching for all of its members. The club also established two competitive chess teams -- Primary (K-3) and Elementary (4-5) -- which experienced considerable success this year. Its Primary Team (K-3) finished 4th in the Tennessee State Chess Tournament and qualified for the U.S. Chess Federation's National Championships, which will be held May 9-11, 2014 in Dallas, TX. Idlewild primary students will compete in both team and individual competitions at Nationals!
