the project

One unifying theme from the first round of Lorain Charrettes in Spring of 2017 was that civic pride was harmed due to unkempt and trash littered areas and neighborhoods.  The 2017 Quick Picks were one of the most successful outcomes of the #LorainProud Charrettes.  Quick Picks are a short intervention in an area in need of some TLC around the city.  Community members identify a location that needs cleaned up and then community volunteers gather for an hour to collect trash, cut weeds, mow grass, etc.  We improved many locations all around Lorain in 2017 and are looking to do the same in 2018.

The first $500.00 raised will go towards supplies for the quick picks in 2018: garbage/lawn bags, gloves and safety equipment, tools, etc.

The second $500.00 raised will go towards the planting of 2-3 "Green Spaces" around downtown Lorain.  These spaces will consist of no-low maintenance native species, and will serve as an example of sustainable landscaping for individuals, businesses, and the city!

The final $500.00 as well as any additional funds raised will be divided evenly between the action areas identified by the community in the Fall Charrettes:

Active Transportation, Arts/History/Culture, Downtown/Broadway Redevelopment, Lakefront/Waterway Development, and Youth/Schools

Specific projects for these areas include Pedestrian & Cyclist WayFinding signs, a downtown mural/selfie spot, scenic photo spots/picture frames along the waterways, and more!

the steps

Lorain Quick Picks: This is an established and ongoing community project seeking additional funding to continue and expand.

Greening Project:  Led by Max Scaefer of the Ohio Environmental Council, this project will partner with other local organizations to design and plant  low maintenance, and native shrubs to demonstrate sustainable practices in landscaping to beautify out city in an environmentally friendly way.

Charrettes Funding:  Projects are already in development for the Charrettes, including Pedestrian & Cyclist wayfinding signage, a downtown mural, and safety campaign signage for the Broadway area.  Additional funding will allow us to increase the scope and positive impact of these projects which will be unveiled at the Better Block Event downtown on Lorain Pride Day, May 19th.

Hi all, we reached 56% of our stretch goal, but funded 100% of the quick picks and most of the green space project, so thank you!  We're closing the fund raiser in order to put this money to use making Lorain a better place!
