the project

Funds raised will fund a summer experience for ten 10th grade students from Glenville highschool. The program is intended to expand the minds of our young women; emphasizing the importance of education, health, travel, and sisterhood. Due to a primarily African American demographic in the Glenville community, there are deficiencies of diversity and resources. We will travel to different places locally that will expose the students to different lifestyles, cultures, perspectives, and careers.

why we're doing it

Everyday I go to work at Glenville highschool, I am surrounded by students with so much beauty and potential inside and out. Unfortunately the beauty and potential does not shine as bright due to poverty, depression, low self-esteem, unstable home environments, and unfortunate circumstances.  I have always dreamed of creating a female youth organization to help our young girls become great women. This program will expand the minds of our young women. We will start by traveling to different places locally. Many of my students have not been outside of the Glenville community. There are many youth programs that exist within CMSD with volunteers and employees going into the neighborhoods with hope of making a difference. There are not many programs that are actually going into urban neighborhoods, taking students outside of their neighborhoods and exposing our youth to something completely new. I believe exposure will develop a perspective that will lead to success and hopefulness in the future.
