the project

Warren Area Youth Symphonette (“WAYS”) is a musical enrichment program for stringed instrument students in Warren. This area is lacking in such a program. It welcomes children from all local areas, ranging in grades from 6th to seniors, with the only requirement being they have had at least one previous year of private lesson. Younger students may be admitted following an informal audition assessment with the musical director.

WAYS was born to provide a follow-on program from the free one-year “Strings of Joy” program, that our local orchestra offered. After a year in that program, students face the decision of either finding a private tutor elsewhere or having to stop playing altogether. WAYS seeks to ensure that students can continue learning as a group at no cost, and provides a platform for them to broaden their musical education and experience with their peers.

The goal of the program is to continue to enrich the lives of these children and community by fostering their love for music. It will begin with strings only but could grow into a full orchestra one day.

the steps

Our Musical Director is a classically trained musician who has considerable teaching and performing experience.

We have a venue for rehearsal and performances. A local church in Downtown Warren, Ohio has a agreed to house the children’s’ group lessons and performances for a small fee.

We still need to purchase music stands and music.

We still need to get the word out! We need to let the community know this is happening so that any one who is eligible can enroll in the program.

We are planning on starting the group lessons on September 2, 2019. With a performance in mid December and one again in late April.

why we're doing it

We want to nurture the talent and dedication of all children joining this program as they continue their journey toward becoming well-rounded musicians.

Musical discipline has been shown to have wide-reaching impact on mental and social skills, yet there is nothing like this in Trumbull County Ohio.

We want to give these children the same opportunity that other great communities have.

updates

Help from Local Foundation

We are excited to announce that we recieved some funding from the Raymond John Wean Foundation in the amount of $1,500.00 to help support the Warren Area Youth Symphonette! The funds are in recognition of Neighborhood SUCCESS Grants Program 10th year Anniversary of resident led projects. Our project aligns with goals of the program and values of the foundation.

We are slowly but surely making our WAYS to being completely funded.

We want to extend an extra special thank you to the staff at the Raymond John Wean Foundation, for all that they do, for believing in us and this endeavor!

Families working hard to help support WAYS

Just wanted to add an update, some of the families of the children who will be participating in this program orginized a raffle sale, and raised $770.00. We couldn't be more thankful to the great families who are working hard to help get this program off the ground! Thanks for the Support!
