the project

“Our Biscayne” will transform a portion of Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami into a vibrant space, where friends meet, cultures mix and social exchanges unfold.

The project will utilize one of the median parking lots along the south section of Biscayne Boulevard to host a farmer’s market, giving residents access to fresh produce, reconnecting the community and invigorating local economies. The market will open in late February 2014.

This project was selected as a winner from among 250 submissions to the Public Space Challenge.

the steps

Maggie Fernandez, a native Miamian and civic entrepreneur and Melissa Hunsberger, a recently relocated Yankee and determined dreamer will utilize their expansive network of partners to implement this project.

Such partners include the Miami Parking Authority, The Market Company, Health Foundation of South Florida, Miami Downtown Development Authority, Bayfront Park Management Trust, City of Miami, Dream in Green, and the Miami Foundation.

why we're doing it

We’d like volunteers to help us promote the farmer’s market and identify sponsorships or just lend us whatever talent you have to help accomplish our bigger goal of creating a more connect community.
