About the project
We believe in celebrating the diverse history of the Northside's neighborhoods, and so we're hosting historic tours.
For well over five decades the mission of the Allegheny City Society has been to preserve and interpret the history of the North Side community of Pittsburgh, which, prior to 1907 was the City of Allegheny.
The project: Rediscovering Four North Side Neighborhoods will include four summer evening walking tours in the summer months of 2017.
The four neighborhoods are: Washington's Landing section of Troy Hill; Fineview; Woods Run valley section of Marshall/Shadeland; and the North Shore.
Each tour will be FREE, broadly advertised, and carefully researched and designed for interaction between tour leaders and participants.
The focus of the tour will be the process of neighborhood growth, development, and transformation. Each tour will conclude with a social hour for participants to share their thoughts about the community they have just walked through.
The Steps
Allegheny City Society is investing in research for these four neighborhood historic tours and then developing the stories and curriculum.
The group is heavily marketing these four tours to the Northside community at large and to wider Pittsburghers. Marketing includes paper mailings and online promotion.
Tour guides will be trained in the well-researched stories and curriculum.
Four tours will be held throughout July and early August.
