This mural came from the fact that Sharpsburg is such a rich, multicultural community. We are all represented in this Tree of Life mural.
The essence of a community mural is the way in which it brings people together to achieve a goal that is both distinctive and gratifying. It is a combination of experience, beauty, and legacy that joins all ages and backgrounds.
Even though Sharpsburg appears to be small on the map, it is huge in the richness of history, dedication to family, and continues to grow as a multicultural neighborhood. With this in mind, bringing a mural project to Sharpsburg is a worthy pursuit. Also for these reasons, the chosen subject is the tree of life, an ageless symbol representing the growth of family, community, and spiritualism.
The vision and hope of this mural is to enhance a feeling of fellowship, promote our local talent by giving citizens the opportunity to successfully have a voice, and to strengthen the connection between our schools and our community.
It is with gratitude that we thank you for considering a partnership with this endeavor. Donations to this project are doubled through the ioby Artists Lead matching program.
Three years of community artists have collaboratively designed and painted this mural, with local teenagers and community gardeners. There is wide support for this mural as a community development project for Sharpsburg's main street. We have support from local artists neighbors, local businesses, the Sharpsburg Aspinwall Rotary Club, Guyasuta Committee, Store Express, Care Builders, Roots of Faith, and Circles Sharpsburg.
The site of the mural was originally donated by Ron Libengood and subsequently donated by Hitchhikers Brewing.
Artists from throughout the community will paint and install the mural throughout the summer.
We are celebrating the rich cultural legacy in Sharpsburg by bringing neighbors together through art on our main street.
