- WE MET OUR GOALLLLL!!!
the project
Despite a growing number of bike commuters, Downtown Memphis has no bike work stations, and transit stops lack clear communication of MATA's bus schedules. A bike rack, work station, and transit improvement are planned for the following locations, which are assets to our Downtown core as well as destination points for residents and tourists:
· Cossitt Library MATA Stop
· South Main Location
· Big River Crossing
This project will also fund a volunteer event to place permanent bus schedule panels at selected routes and transfer points around the City of Memphis, including the following locations:
· Downtown Stops
· Frayser Blvd. at Watkins
· American Way Transit Center
· Cleveland Avenue at Poplar
the steps
Aug/September: Determine Routes and Timepoints/transfer points
September: Meeting/Training with MATA for install
October: Volunteer event to Install Panels and Schedules
November: Install of Bike Racks and Work Stations
why we're doing it
Our overall transit system has been through a number of changes, some for the better, some for the worse. Unfortunately, we realize that there is no clear communication around MATA's scheduling unless you are able to visit one of our transit centers or have internet access to view schedules online. And for a number of Memphians, that can prove to be quite difficult. This will improve transit trips for thousands of Memphians across the city to better navigate our transit system. We're also aware of the jewel that is our downtown core! Downtown Memphis is an attractive place, both to residents and tourists.
Installing bike work stations, making stop improvements, and installing schedule panels would make our city even more welcoming, and make getting around both easy AND appealing while also actively implementing some of the strategic points listed in the Mid-south Regional Greenprint.
