the project
We are planning a second year of teaching bike safety to youth ages 5 to 12. We will elicit the help of the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club, who have trained cyclists and seasoned riders classes to instruct ride leaders. There will be a bike rodeo for the leaders to show their skills, as well as for the young riders.
the steps
We will recruit ride leaders, youth ages 5-12; register for safety riding classes; have printed material; have a bike rodeo to show their skills. There will be a National Night Out event in Gooch park with a bike rodeo. We will be successful when we have scheduled rides from the park each week promoting a more safe, healthy and active community.
why we're doing it
In the summer, we have a summer feeding program with Memphis Park Services, where we provide nutritious breakfast and lunches to more than 200 youth. We will have a host of other activities that encourage kids to move such as jump rope, hoola hoop, basketball and football. We will have a week of gardening.
