the project

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our donors as we work toward our goal of acquiring nonprofit status. It came to our attention that there are others who would like to contribute, so we have extended our campaign through Friday, August 4th. All donations will go toward our 501(c)(3) incorporation, followed by other essential organizational expenses such as marketing, fees, and grant matching.

Thank you again for walking alongside us!

Walk Austin works to move Austin toward a culture of walking as a transportation mode throughout the city. We aim to make walking enjoyable, healthy, and safe by collaborating with diverse communities and city leaders to improve policies, programs, and infrastructure.

We are passionate that a “compact and connected” Austin will improve the pedestrian experience in our City. We will support design features that are friendly to pedestrians of all ages and abilities including more comfortable street design and safe crossings, improved connectivity, and a denser mix of land uses.

the steps

As soon as we hit the mark, we will use it to pay our attorney and the required filing fees associated with acquiring 501(c)3 status.

why we're doing it

We are taking the step to become a 501(c)3 so that we can solicit grant funding and expand our efforts to promote walkability in Austin.

budget

Disbursed Budget (as of 8.7.17):

RAISED = $1,437.00
less ioby Platform Fee  $35.00
less ioby Fiscal Sponsorship Fee (5%) $64.91
less ioby Donation Processing Fee (3%) $38.94
TOTAL TO DISBURSE = $1,298.15

Original Budget:

We are making sure to dot our i's and cross our t's for this effort, so we will be working closely with an attorney to get the job done right (the first time!). All expenses, including filing fees are included in $1275.

Oh, and as a bonus, if we recive our first 10 donations by July 14th ioby will give Walk Austin $100. That’s right—we could be looking at up to $100 FREE toward this project! Let's go for it!

Project Subtotal =  $1,275
ioby Platform Fee  $35
ioby Fiscal Sponsorship Fee (5%) $64
ioby Donation Processing Fee (3%) $38
Total to Raise on ioby = $1,412

AWESOME PROJECT: Walk Austin makes it official, 501c3 style

by ioby
August 3, 2017

We never get tired of hearing from campaign leaders who appreciate not just the personal crowdsourcing training, tactical support, and signature ioby love we provide, but also the legal backing that we, a fiscal sponsorship service, bring to the table. It can be really challenging and limiting for smaller groups that aren’t 501c3s themselves – gardening clubs, say, or educator collectives, or simply handfuls of neighbors coming together with a vision – to navigate the choppy fundraising seas alone. We’re proud to facilitate that process, so that they can focus on doing what they do: knowing better than anyone else what their own communities need, building that educational beehive, starting that edible community garden, creating that pop-up bike lane, etc.

What you may not know is that we also love to help organizations achieve 501c3-hood themselves. And today’s a pretty neat day, because one of our favorite Texas organizations – the pedestrian advocacy coalition Walk Austin – is just about to wrap up raising the money they need to make it official. Well, to be more exact, they reached their 501c3 fundraising goal so easily last week that they extended their ioby deadline by a few days, so that they could raise cash for some other necessities, like a coalition website (right now they’re only on Facebook).
