the project
The Evergreen Historic District Association (EHDA) is organizing neighborhood support and sponsorship to plant trees in Williamson Park, an undeveloped park and hidden neighborhood gem, established in 1926 by the City of Memphis. EHDA seeks to plant a combination of twenty “Tennessee grown” red maple and southern red oak trees in Williamson Park alongside the variety of mature existing canopy trees such as oaks and sweet gum.
This initiative contributes to the broader goal of strengthening the Evergreen neighborhood’s natural arboretum status, and enhancing the only public park within the borders of this historic neighborhood.
the steps
October 24-December 4 - Crowd-source funding for trees and planting -
December 2015 - Order Trees
By March 15th, 2016 - Plant trees
By April 1st - Place signage
Feb/March 2016-2017 - Year 1, weekly watering, Year 1
Spring and Summer 2016 (and for many years to come) - Watch our trees grow!
why we're doing it
Williamson Park tree plantings will establish the next generation of tree canopy, improve air quality & storm water management, increase rain water retention, and provide much needed shade for current and future users of the park.

We reached our project goal this morning at about 10 a.m.
Thank you so much to the 43 donors who have made it possible to improve Williamson Park.
We will be in touch in the coming weeks to let you know about the status of the tree planting project - and to keep you informed about other aspects of Williamson Park planning for the future.
Thank you again for your generosity, support, and commitment to keeping Evergreen GREEN!
Thank you Evergreen!

Thanks to 32 donors, we are very close to our funding goal (and have extended the deadline a few days to allow our neighbors and project volunteers to achieve it).
We have also received a great deal of interest from volunteers who are eager to help plant and care for our new trees!
Once we reach our goal, we will let everyone know - and plan a meeting to move towards implementation.
Thank you again to our Evergreen community for your contribution to our efforts to ensure that Williamson Park will be a neighborhood treasure for years to come!
