To provide the youth in Town Fork Creek with resources tools and skills to assist in building and strenghing the neighborhood. It is becoming increasingly clear that in order to bring change in Kansas City urban neighborhoods, we must involve the youth. Where youth grow up and the preception has a major influence on their life.
Implement a structured avenue where youth develop plans that is aligned with Town Fork Creek mission and vision and needs. Arm the youth though leadership workshops and information. The workshops will include:overview of the neighborhood and neighborhood issues; Kansas City Police Department; Kansas City Code Enforcement Officers, Conflict Resolution, Making positive decisions, and how to develop a neighborhood plan. The youth will map the neighborhood, develop and carry out their plans and projects.
why we're doing it
The project will discover what skills youth and residents can contribute to the neighborhood and what resources already exist within the community. Youth will develop valuable skills while preparing youth for creative and effective leadership as role models in Town Fork Creek neighborhood. Hopefully the youth will draw other youth and their parents in the mission of making the neighborhood safe and cleaner. Town Fork is attempting to create a model that can be used in other neighborhoods
