the project

The African National Women's Organization Liberation Center is an ambitious initiative born from the vision to transform 4617 Natural Bridge Avenue into a vibrant, state-of-the-art facility. This space, generously donated by the African People's Education and Defense Fund, will become a catalyst for change, a hub for community empowerment, and a testament to the resilience of the African people.

Our Mission: Located at the heart of North St. Louis, MO, a community deeply affected by centuries of colonial exploitation, we are on a mission to uplift and empower. We acknowledge the stark realities of poverty, health disparities, and crime that plague our community. Our aim is to reverse these trends and create a thriving international hub for African people. Additionally, we aspire to provide invaluable support to individuals and groups focusing on both local and national concerns.

  5. Install new front bottom level façade by replacing brick with full-view windows.

why we're doing it

We are committed to advancing the cause of African self-determination. Our center will provide vital cultural, social, and community spaces that not only celebrate African people but also serve as catalysts for change. We are particularly focused on creating safe and empowering environments for African women and femmes to address the unique challenges we face as we journey towards freedom.

Your support can make a profound difference in our efforts to uplift African women and femmes and empower those who have been marginalized. Join us in our mission to strengthen our community, nurture resilience, and pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future. Together, we can ensure that the flame of African self-determination burns brighter than ever before.

Our Vision: The African National Women's Organization Center for Social Justice aspires to achieve this vision through several key initiatives:

  1. Creative and Incubator Residency: We believe in nurturing talent and innovation within our community. Our creative and incubator residencies will provide artists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries with the space and resources they need to flourish.

  2. Community Childcare: We understand that family support is essential for personal growth and success. Our facilities will provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, enabling parents to pursue their goals and contribute to our community's well-being serving as our headquarters for the Uhuru Kijiji Childcare Collective.

  3. Safe Place Site: Safety is a fundamental need for everyone. Our Safe Place Site will offer a sanctuary for those seeking refuge, support, and community. It will serve as a haven for individuals facing crises, promoting emotional and physical well-being.

  4. Organizing:  As the headquarters of the African National Women's Organization the center will serve as a national and local organizing space aimed at empowering African women and femmes in our struggles against the impact of colonial capitalism.
