All are invited to a Day of Service in the Bronx at 160 Melrose Ave (the site of our new Let’s Get Dirty Farm) on Tuesday June 26th 2012 from 10am to 5pm (an All Day Affair). This Day of Service is sponsored by SONY Pictures (Spider-Man 3), and made possible through City Hall and the NYC Center for Economic Opportunity. Let’s Get Dirty Farm, when fully built, will function as a community garden and will promote eating healthy and eating local. Please join us on our Day of Service with a call to action “Let’s Get Dirty” where you and your families will be part of a larger network of friends and colleagues cleaning up and building this farm from scratch. And don’t worry about the little ones -as we will have tons of outdoor activities, games and entertainment for them as well. Folks will be on hand to assist with baby seating activities/arrangements. In addition, the site of Jardin de la Roca (the Rock Garden) located at 160 Elton Ave will serve as the reception area/ press site, and will be decorated with red and blue plain balloons with Sony providing Spiderman swag (posters, masks, tattoos etc).
Now that we've cleaned out the site, gotten compost from DSNY, and received the money to build, we're throwing a workday on June 26!
We are doing this to create a farm in the south Bronx that will help us to eat healthy and local. The Farm will also have a compost area and a rain harvesting system to save water and landfill.
