We plan to continue our efforts of improving the quality of the BMX track members of the Memphis and surrounding communities have to enjoy the sport of BMX. Our riders and their families are 100% volunteer and maintain the outdoor track so riders can participate in a nationally sanctioned sport (which is also an olympic event!).
Our next big goal is to raise enough funds to cover all four turns in the course with asphalt. This allows riders to have a more consistent and durable riding surface.
All families who are members at our local track will participate in the fundraising and improvement projects.
We will re-visit local companies for the best quote on applying asphalt. Our volunteers will spend several days shaping and preparing the dirt for the asphalt. Adult volunteers will be on hand to guide the actual asphalt application.
BMX was once a huge sport in Memphis. We are working hard to bring it back in this area. This sport was once held in the buildings at the old fairgrounds with hundreds of children and teens riding weekly.
Volunteers for years have wanted to add asphalt to this track and have not had access to the needed resources.
We hope our improvements will bring attention back to this great community sport.
In the past year we have more than doubled the new riders in Memphis and surrounding communities.
