Soulsville USA has a street garden on the corner of Mississippi and McLemore underneath the "I Love Soulsville' mural. We would like to raise money to get flowers for our garden. This would help the garden a better ascetics from the streets. Plus it is a neighborhood effort and working with the garden helps us stay engaged as a community. Once we raise the money for the flowers it will be a great completion that us a neighbors in Soulsville has visualized.
the steps
Once we raised the money, we will meet with our resident gardeners and Memphis City Beautiful to and see which plants and flowers will do well in that area.
Next find a nursery in Memphis that will work with us a neighborhood and get the flowers and plants we need.
By the second week of September we will make put out a flyer about the garden and reach out for volunteers.
We would like to have the project completed by the end of September in time for our annual Soulsville Festival.
why we're doing it
Working with the street garden has been a work in progress over the past year. The residents of Soulsville have come together for the whole process from layout design, voting on the bench, digging up the weeds, and coming together to build the vision. When we as a community come together and build the vision. Working on the street garden has brought various people in our community together. This garden has shown the community how much we take pride in our neighborhood. Residents will see us working and ask what can they do to help out. We have seen people driving down the street stop and give a hand. Even the "young folks" have volunteered. This street garden has truly become a neighborhood event that has made a huge impact for our community engagment.
