Kayak Staten Island is an all-volunteer organization founded a decade ago to provide free kayaking for the public at the shoreline on Staten Island. It is our intent that participants in our programs will be inspired to embrace the recreational activity but more importantly, foster a connection with the shorelines of Staten Island and advocate for environmental justice and restoration.
We will conduct a number of events at the shoreline of Staten Island (2 locations) and encourage environmental stewardship of all participants. For those interested in participating, we will issue gloves an trash bags so they can help us remove debris that have washed on our shoreline, mostly due to Combined Sewer Overflow (CSOs). All community members will be educated on the issue of CSOs and we hope to build awareness to generate political action to address this historical urban issue,
We are an all-volunteer group devoted to the restoration of Staten Island's shoreline. In addition, we share a passion that all residents of our island should be engaged with and enjoy our shoreline.
