This fundraising project is to bring beauty to the historical Washington Neighborhood Center in Alkali Flats, creating an artistic urban garden for the frontage of the center and the backyard events space. It is in our vision to bring urban art landscaping to the streetscape along the sides of the building to create a welcoming and safe environment for the community and placemaking an event space in the backyard. The whole project would be built, made, and curated by local Latino artists to honor the legacy and history of this Center. This project would include urban gardens, murals, artisan furniture and sculptures, lighting, and security.
Create a design and mockups of the designs.
Create a call for artists, makers, and builders.

Washington Neighborhood Center is a historical space that honors and preserves the Latino Culture and heritage. The center has served as a place of community access to art, wellness, education, and advocacy for decades. We are excited to bring some much-needed love to this space. Curating cultural events and offerings by creating placemaking is in the vision of the Center's community. We intend to polish off and embrace a place that has helped so many people over the years and bring new life with hands-on community action.
