Thank You!

the project

The elementary school children will build a raised garden and a rain barrel with the help of parents and teachers. As they spend time growing vegetables, the children will begin to see the connection between their efforts, their food and the impact we have on our environment. The garden will provide hands-on activities to supplement their science lessons as well as provide healthy food for nutritious snacks. When the children reap what they have grown, it will encourage them to try healthy recipes and open a conversation about nutrition and local food. The rain barrel will ensure conservation of water.

the steps

Purchase supplies and build the garden frame. Prepare the soil and fill the bed. Assemble a rain barrel. Plant vegetables plants and care for them. Use the produce for nutritious snacks.

why we're doing it

Teaching elementary students about the environment and local food, increases the future health of our town.

Conversation

How exciting to be fully funded! Thank you! We were blessed to raise more than the initial goal and I am sure it will come in handy. We will use the extra to make the garden bigger and to cover the items not on the budget such as any tools needed for the students. We will also need organic soil additives-manure/compost. Thank you! Now...hurry up, Spring!
