the project

Path & Green was created out of a desire to meet the basic needs of teen girls by providing them with personal care items, clothing, and luxury items (like makeup & accessories when available). We want to lavishly care for each girl who comes to shop at our FREE boutique. Beyond meeting their basic needs, we also want girls to know they are worthy, loved, and valued. Our mission is to bring hope and a future to teen girls in Lorain County.

In order to reach every teen girl in Lorain County, we knew going mobile was essential. Therefore, we have already purchased a step van that we will be retrofitting into a mobile boutique with the help of Mobile Outreach Solutions. When complete, we will be able to pull up to every high school in Lorain County where the girls can then come out and shop at our free boutique for their needs.

But our dream doesn’t stop there! In the future, it is Path & Green’s hope to be able to connect those same girls with other resources within the community to improve their lives and future. Our board is made up of four amazing board members who each have connections to resources in the Lorain County community.

With the support of our board, community, local schools, and you, we can make a huge difference in Lorain County!

the steps

There will be several phrases in our work at Path & Green. We believe starting small, working slowly but steadily will allow our organization to reach the need more effectively, be fiscally responsible, and give us the invaluable insight we will need down the road to expand by both the number of girls we serve and the services we provide.

Starting January 1st, 2022, we will implement the intial phrase of our project by providing teen girls from Clearview High School with needed personal care items which will include tampons, maxi pads, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, deodorant, tooth paste and tooth brush, etc. Any student or teacher, school counselor, social worker, or principal on behalf of the student can fill out a Google form with items needed. Once the form is received, Path & Green will package items available and deliver them to the school. The school will then distribute bags to the student whom requested it.

We are trying to raise a minimum of $3000.00 through ioby.com by December 31, 2021. Money raised will go towards the following expenses: purchasing items not collected through our donation drives, printing costs such as parental consent forms, informational and donation flyers and postage, and material costs such as bags, tissue paper, and labels to distribute personal care items.

For the second phrase of our campaign beginning in 2022, we look to raise a minimum of $75,000 which will go towards renovations on our truck including interior, exterior, vinyl wrap, and generator, cost of gas, insurance, maintence of vehicle and additional purchasing of items to be distrubuted to students to meet their needs. We hope to have the truck ready to operate by September 1, 2022.

why we're doing it

As an educator, our founder saw her students go without basic hygiene products and clothing which affected their performance in the classroom, mental health, and attendance record. Did you know?

  • 1 in 5 girls in American have missed school due to a lack of menstrual products.
  • 0 governmental programs help with hygiene products.
  • Covid has caused a 60% increase in the demand for hygiene products.
  • 1 in 3 low-income American families struggle to afford basic non food household goods.

With these statistics in mind and seeing first hand the need in our community, our founder knew she wanted to do something to make a difference in these girls lives. Therefore, she created Path & Green to bring hope and a future to teen girls in Lorain County.

We are currently working to raise the money we need for Phase 1 of our project. The Community Foundation of Lorain County will match up to $500.00 of what we raise on here.

Phase 1 goal: $3,000.00

According to our calculations, teen girls cost their families approximately $31.00 on basic personal care items every two to three months. This cost covers the following items: toothpaste ($1.00), toothbrush ($1.99), floss ($1.00), mouth wash ($1.79), tampons and maxi pads ($11.28), shampoo ($3.99), conditioner ($3.99), body lotion ($3.79), body wash ($1.99), deodorant ($3.59), and face wash ($3.89)*. This does not include other items like hairspray, hair gel or cream, vaseline, sunscreen, body oil etc. We know we can't provide every single personal care item needed for each student but we would like to be able to supplement the burden of this cost.

During the initial phase, we would like to provide the 235 girls at Clearview High School with a minimum of $25.00 worth of supplies between January 1st - May 31st which adds up to $5,875.00. We will also have another $625.00 of other expenses including insurance, printing, materials for distribution of items, marketing, etc needed to carry out the initial phase for a total cost of $6,500.00.

We will reach Phase 1 goal of a total of $6,500.00 through the following**:

  • Monetary donations raised on ioby.com- $3,000.00
  • Matching grant from Community Foundations of Lorain County- $500.00
  • Direct donation of items- $1,500.00
  • Other grants received- $1,000.00
  • Other- $500.00

*All prices of the cost of personal care items were determined at the time of writing this description and based on prices from Meijer.com. We will utilize sales, comparing prices, and couponing to maximize all money donated.

**Breakdown of money sources subject to change if needed.
