Renaissance Box was honored with the Ingenuity Award

the project

Welcome to Renaissance Box (RB), where artists and scientists embark on an immersive 3-6 month residency journey across Cleveland, merging art and science in unprecedented ways. Our program fosters intentional collaboration, encouraging diverse applicants to explore social issues through cross-disciplinary lenses.

Selected participants receive stipends, a dedicated studio space, and pairings with professionals from contrasting fields, creating a dynamic mentorship aspect. What sets RB apart is its meticulously structured residency format, leveraging Cleveland's resources to propel innovation.

Set in a city renowned for artistic expression and scientific innovation, RB taps into Cleveland's world-renowned art museums, research institutions, and vibrant community spaces. Our collaborative residency aims not only to create art but also to empower the next generation of innovators, breaking traditional boundaries and propelling Cleveland to the forefront of innovation.

Projects culminate in exhibitions or public installations, providing a transformative experience for all involved, including the 3-5 qualified high school students actively engaged in assistant roles. Did you know low-income students engaged in the arts are twice as likely to graduate college?

Professionals from arts and sciences collaborate under common themes, fostering diverse projects with endless possibilities. The RB initiative doesn't just promote collaboration; it establishes a deliberate and immersive environment for professionals and students to learn, interact, and create together.

the steps

Once funds are secured, we open the application process to professionals in the arts and sciences and high school students. We plan on advertising the applications to the public. Once the deadline passes, our panel selects residency teams to participate in the residency program. We will move forward with securing a studio space and scheduling tours ahead of the start of the residency. Funds are partially dispersed to the team and introduced to our committee. Our committee and program manager will work closely with the team to ensure success and schedule exhibition spaces for the team to debut their work. The exhibition will be advertised to the community, and we will gear up to repeat the process to accept our next round of applicants.

why we're doing it

Our project, The Renaissance Box, bridges the gap between science and visual arts, addressing critical social and economic challenges in our neighborhood. With a focus on both art and high school education, our initiative aims to create a transformative impact in our community.

Through a meticulous application process, we select three to five qualified high school students to join our artist and scientist team. Specifically targeting schools affected by art funding cuts, we strive to address educational disparities and empower low-income students. This mentorship program provides hands-on experience and application of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Mathematics) disciplines, fostering future success and advancing educational equity.

By fostering collaboration between professionals in the sciences and visual arts, our initiative not only nurtures innovation but also prepares students for dynamic careers. Our ultimate goal is to empower the next generation of innovators, transcending traditional boundaries and propelling Cleveland to the forefront of innovation.

The fusion of STEAM disciplines within our residency stimulates fresh approaches to problem-solving and scientific inquiry. With direct mentorship by seasoned professionals and collaboration with experts, high school students benefit from hands-on learning experiences, fostering a culture of interdisciplinary innovation.

We invite you to join us on this transformative journey as we break boundaries and shape the future of interdisciplinary collaboration in Cleveland. Join us in paving the way for a new era driven by STEAM-infused creativity and discovery.

Renaissance Box was honored with the Ingenuity Award

Renaissance Box was presented in the Arts & Culture category of the Accelerate 2024. Ingenuity Cleveland once again invigorated and energized Accelerate with their creative colorful installations. They also gave out FOUR Ingenuity Ignite Impact Awards, Renaissance Box was one of the recipients of this award.

Grateful for the honor bestowed upon us with the Ingenuity Award at Accelerate 2024, we have now secured a dedicated studio space.
